What is Creative Commons Licensing?
To quote their website:
“Creative Commons is a nonprofit organization that enables the sharing and use of creativity and knowledge through free legal tools. Our free, easy-to-use copyright licenses provide a simple, standardized way to give the public permission to share and use your creative work – on conditions of your choice. CC licenses let you easily change your copyright terms from the default of ‘all rights reserved’ to ‘some rights reserved.’ Creative Commons licenses are not an alternative to copyright. They work alongside copyright and enable you to modify your copyright terms to best suit your needs.”
So, it’s a way for me to more freely allow you to use my lesson plans and materials (that I create) while maintaining copyright over them. I believe in sharing and making it easy for you to reshare and reuse what I’ve done. I also wanted to make it very clear to you what you can do with the content on the site. Please don’t be deterred by this! I simply want to reserve some of my rights (i.e. I don’t want any one to sell my work) while allowing sharing. It also encourages you to share any changes you make to this work. In fact, if you create your own materials I would encourage you to consider CC licensing. Here is a breakdown of what the Creative Commons License I have chosen means.
